Installation

To see what version of XQuartz you have, click Applications - Utilities - XQuartz. Then X11 - About X11. If necessary, download the XQuartz installation package and double click it to install. XQuartz 2.7.5 (macOS versions 10.6 - 10.9) XQuartz 2.7.6 (macOS versions 10.10 and higher). It still says “Community supported update to X11 in Leopard,” but if I’m not mistaken (and it’s entirely possible that I am), the last version of XQuartz that ran on Leopard was 2.6.3, and the current version (2.7.4) runs only on Snow Leo, Lion and Mountain Lion. Default X11 Server

If this is your first time installing XQuartz, you may wish to logout and logback in. This will update your DISPLAY environment variable to point toXQuartz.app rather than X11.app. If you would prefer to keep using X11.app asyour default server (you can still launch XQuartz.app manually), you’ll wantto disable /Library/LaunchAgents/org.macosforge.xquartz.startx.plist usinglaunchctl(1).

XQuartz is an open-source project that together with supporting libraries and applications, forms the X11.app that Apple has shipped with OS X since version 10.5.
Upon opening Xquartz you will be able to easily access your X11 applications, but also add shortcuts or duplicate them, if you want to.
In the Output Preferences tab you can choose the desired colors or even enable the fullscreen mode. In order to change the colors you must relaunch the X11 system.
XQuartz also allows you to modify Pasteboard actions like syncing. You can choose to update Pasteboard when detecting clipboard changes and update PRIMARY when Pasteboard changes.
In the Windows tab you can click through inactive windows and enable a feature that focus follows the cursor. Furthermore, you can also enable the creation of a new X11 window that will case the X11 application to mode to the background.
Moreover, you can also enable security options like authenticating connections or allowing connections from various network clients.
